LGNZ appoints new chief executive

Local Government New Zealand has appointed Malcolm Alexander as its new chief executive.

Mr Alexander joins LGNZ from Genesis Energy where he held the position of general manager,
corporate affairs responsible for government and regulatory affairs, public and media
relations, corporate brand and sponsorship, and business strategy and planning.

He is a member of the board of the NZ Council for Infrastructure Development and
was chair of the Telecommunications Carriers’ Forum between 2002 and 2008.

Mr Alexander is enrolled as a barrister and solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand. He
undertook the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School in 2008.

“Malcolm is experienced in cabinet, parliamentary and departmental processes and has built
strong relationships at the local government level,” says LGNZ president Lawrence
Yule.

“We are delighted to have such a talented person to lead our organisation, and team, and look
forward to Malcolm taking up his new role in April this year.”
